Space 1026 presents Glory Be, an exhibition featuring new works from Eric Brittain, Caley Feeney, Jessica Hans, Helen Levi (whose sculpture is pictured above), Clark Mizono and Erin Jane Nelson, curated by Geoffrey KixMiller. These six artists, living in Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, Portland and Oakland, produce work defined by formal investigations in dialogue with the world they find around them. It is this ethic which Glory Be aims to celebrate. The works in the show, primarily ceramics and photography, offer a survey of moments and a reflection of our environment’s unique aesthetic composition.
In correspondence with the show’s curator Geoffrey KixMiller, artist Caley Feeney expressed these ideas most exactly:
Heyyyyyyyyy Geoff ♫ !
yeah you bring up some good points / observations ||
Art inclined towards the formal and considered that acknowledges and engages w The World The World Th’World
Presenting evidence of an Eye guiding itself
Open play
Reflecting on the world by refracting, redirecting, reframing and repositioning what is already present.
Yeah, engaging right?
Electrifying (putting energy into) or shocking(surprising, reminding, infusing) both the perceived and perceiver into a more fully present moment.
but it can be low-key, like
Providing a sensorial editorial on life in this or that moment.
Participating
Yeah!
In this ongoing conversation;
Glory be
(I know this is a religious phrase, but I’ve really taken to it lately and I like that it can really be applied to anything. Classically it is Glory be to The Father, but it could just as easily be like, Glory be to the sunset or the color of someone’s spilled smoothie in the mall or something)
I’m going to kind of freestyle here if that’s ok.
